In case of minimum eligibility being fixed at 60%, you must have either secured exactly or above 60%. If you have scored 59.89%, it won't be rounded off to the nearest whole number. Hence, you will be not eligible for the job, if the score is less than the prescribed percentage, even by 0.01%.
MBA is NOT necessary for entry level recruitments conducted by public sector banks. Entry level jobs are Clerks, Probationary Officers & in some cases Managers. For applying to these positions, the minimum eligibility would be a Degree or Pass in 12th/10th std in any discipline.
*In case the recruitment is for specialized posts like Agriculture, Systems, IT, Credit, Finance etc., - candidates with Degree in those subjects would be asked to apply.
Probationary Officer is the first entry point for a job in bank, especially to fresh graduates & those without prior experience. The PO will report to their immediate senior officer, who will closely monitor & evaluate the performance of him/her for a certain period.
While on job, Probationary officers will have to take up assignments given by their managers. Along with training, they will also be deployed across various departments of the bank to gain exposure in operations & working of bank. So, in short, the PO must be willing to take up any work during the probation period in order to understand the process effectively & to scale greater heights and reach higher positions.
Probation period: Normally, the probation period for PO's will be for 2 years. The probation period can also considered as the learning phase. Hence it is extremely important to be in good conduct, during probation. Banks have the right to terminate the employee during the probation, if he/she does not fit the position.
Bank PO joins the bank as Asst. manager after the end of probation period. Initially he/she may be posted in a branch where he/she will handle daily customer transaction like passing a cheque, cash management, Draft issuance etc. After certain experience and depending upon skill/aptitude, the person would be given an opportunity to work in other areas like planning, marketing, budgeting, processing of loan, investment management etc.
Salary: The basic pay scale for probationary officers ranges between Rs.10,000 - 18,240. Depending on the post & grade after successful completion of probation, the pay scale may increase. An increase in salary for bank employees has been approved recently.
Specialist Officers have a specific area of expertise, in which they may have graduated or might have good experience. Example - A Graduate in Agriculture/Horticulture/Allied sciences will be appointed as Specialist officer to lend loans to farmers, agricultural companies & to fetch deposits from nearby farms, dairies etc., Since these people are specialized in a specific subject, they are used by banks to work more closely with the specific public community.
The Specialist officers are appointed based on the need, vision, business and reach of the bank. If a bank has huge foreign deposits or if it handles large amount of foreign transactions, a specialist officer with strong knowledge of foreign exchange policies, rules etc may be appointed.
This is the reason why banks expect candidates graduated from specific stream like Electronics, Computer science, Agriculture, Horticulture & other subjects to apply for the post of Specialist Officers. In short, the role of Specialist Officers is much needed, if the bank is willing to reach out all parts of societies in the country.
No. Large banks recruiting in huge numbers will have negative marks for wrong answers in their preliminary test to decrease the number of candidates moving to the next level.
Such information will be provided in the recruitment advertisement of the banks.
No. Negative marks will be awarded only in case of any wrong answers. So, if you have not attended a question, no marks will be deducted.
The selection is being made on the basis of performance in written test and interview, sometimes there is also provision for Group Discussions as a part of selection process.
