The World University of Design hosted 3rd - edition of Global Goals Jam

  • World University of Design (WUD) - India's first and only University dedicated to education in the creative domain, successfully concluded the India edition of the special two-day global event focusing on design thinking and service design methodologies - Global Goals Jam 3.0 (GGJ) from September 20 to 21.
  • Seventy participants from across India, divided into ten groups, participated in the workshop presented their ideas and vision for the future.
  • Some of the innovative solution showcased include the issue of electronic waste created in the space and create solutions to reduce/ reuse/ recycle it.
  • This year's theme focuses on the growing issue of (e-Waste. It is in-line with SDG12 - Responsible consumption and ethical production).

UP Govt. announces Rs, 6000 annual aid for Triple Talaq victims

  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced an annual assistance of Rs 6,000 to the victims of triple talaq till their rehabilitation and they will also get free legal aid from the state government.
  • The chief minister, under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) interacted with the women who faced divorce through outlawed practice of instant triple talaq.
  • such women should be given rights over waqf properties and also called for several welfare measures that should be undertaken for their rehabilitation.
  • Around 300 women from across the state attended the event.

India Tourism Mart exhibition inaugurated

  • Culture and Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel inaugurated the exhibition of India Tourism Mart (ITM), 2019 in New Delhi.
  • Over 240 international delegates from 51 countries and 160 exhibitors from across the country are taking in part in the second edition of ITM.
  • The Ministry of Tourism and the Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism and Hospitality have jointly organized this Mart.
  • It will provide a platform at the national level for trade and hospitality service providers in the country to interact and conduct business with their counterparts from overseas.

Centre approves construction of 1.23 lakh houses under PMAY-Urban

  • The Centre has approved the construction of 1.23 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), taking the total number of houses sanctioned under the scheme to over 90 lakhs.
  • The approval was given by the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC).
  • The CSMC, headed by Union Housing and Urban Affairs secretary Durga Shanker Mishra, approved 630 proposals from participating states for construction of 1.23 lakh houses with an overall investment of Rs 4,988 crore.

First Indigenous Fuel Cell System launched on CSIR Foundation

  • Centre unveiled the first Indigenous High-Temperature Fuel Cell System on the occasion of CSIR Foundation Day at New Delhi.
  • It was unveiled by the President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind. It was developed by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in partnership with Indian industries under India’s flagship program named New Millennium Indian Technology Leadership Initiative (NMITLI).
  • The Cell would replace Diesel Generating (DG) sets and help reduce India’s dependence on crude oil. The Fuel Cells is in line with India’s mission of replacing diesel with green and alternate fuels.

Bhopal Metro to be named after Raja Bhoj, announces Kamal Nath

  • Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath announced on Thursday that the metro rail in Bhopal will be named for Raja Bhoj, an 11th century ruler, a local Congress MLA opposed the decision.
  • Kamal Nath performed the 'bhumi pujan' (ground-breaking ceremony) for the project near Gayatri Mandir on Hoshangabad Road.
  • Laying the foundation stone of the ₹6,941.4 project.

DRDO Signs MoU With Central University of Jammu

  • The Central University of Jammu has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Defence for the establishment of Kalam Centre for Science and Technology (KCST).
  • The MoU has been inked to facilitate and undertake multidisciplinary directed basic and applied research and technology development in computational system security and sensors.
  • KCST will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment leading to increase in research scholars in these areas.

Hyundai Motor India Foundation invites entries for ‘H-Social Creator’

  • Hyundai Motor India Foundation, a philanthropic arm of the Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), invited entries for participation in the globally acclaimed ‘H-Social Creator’, a Social Innovator CSR programme for Indian youth.
  • The H-Social Creator Programme was first instituted by Hyundai Motor Company in South Korea in 2015.
  • H-Social Creator will be the industry’s first Youth Contact Programme to build Social Innovators and Future Thinkers.

AWARDS

  • Infosys announced that it has won the prestigious United Nations Global Climate Action Award in the ‘Climate Neutral Now’ category.
  • Infosys is the only corporate from India to earn the recognition for its efforts to combat climate change.
  • The announcement of the winners came shortly after the UN Climate Summit in New York was convened by UN Secretary General António Guterres.
  • The award will be presented to Infosys at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) in Santiago, Chile (December 2019).

Cochin International Airport bags global award for passenger satisfaction

  • Cochin International Airport Ltd has been selected as the best airport in terms of services it offered to passengers, based on a survey conducted by Airport Council International (ACI).
  • CIAL was emerged the topper in 5-15 million passenger categories among the airports in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • The annual Airport Service Quality (ASQ) awards by Airport Council International recognise and reward the best airports in the world based on ASQ departure survey.

Lance Klusener Replaces Phil Simmons As Afghanistan Head Coach

  • Former South Africa all-rounder Lance Klusener was appointed the new head coach of the Afghanistan cricket team.
  • Klusener will replace Phil Simmons, whose 18-month stint with the national side ended with their last-place finish in the World Cup.

Haggerty retains ITF presidency ahead of Davis Cup reform

  • David Haggerty of the United States, who was behind recent changes to the Davis Cup, was re-elected as president of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) until 2023, the governing body announced on Friday.
  • Haggerty, 62, who has been in the position since 2015, received 60.5% of the vote, more than double that of Indian Anil Khanna who was second.

  • Boman Rashid Kohinoor, the senior partner of Mumbai’s iconic eatery Britannia & Co Restaurant, passed away on 25 September, 2019. He was 97.
  • A landmark eatery in South Mumbai’s Ballard Estate area, Britannia is known as much for its delectable Parsi cuisine as for its eccentric owners.

Japan Launches 'biggest Cargo Spaceship' To Replenish Supplies At ISS

  • Facilitating in replenishing essential supplies at the International Space station (ISS), Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), launched its cargo vessel Kounotori8 to the ISS from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's Tanegashima Space Center.
  • The Kounotori8 is claimed to be the 'the world's biggest transport space ship' by Japan's space agency JAXA.
  • The cargo vessel was launched using an H-IIB rocket at 1:05 AM (local time) from the Tanegashima island in Japan.

World Tourism Day 2019

  • United Nations World Tourism Organization announced September 27 as World Tourism Day in 1980 and has been celebrating the day since then.
  • Each year sees a new theme and a new country as a host.
  • The objective is to acquaint people with the social, economic, cultural and political importance of tourism and make them responsible tourists in turn.
  • This year for the first time India will be hosting World Tourism Day which has the theme ‘Tourism and Jobs: a better future for all’.
