Order for dissolution issued for Ordnance Factory Board

  • The Defence Ministry issued order for dissolution of Ordnance Factory Board which comes into effect from Oct1.
  • Seven newly constituted Defence Public Sector Undertakings(DPSU) will aquire the assets and employees under the Ordnance Factory Board.
  • There are totally 41 factories under OFB , which has over 70,000 employees (Group A, B and C)belonging to production units and also identified non production units will be transferred to the new DPSU.

Seven New Defence Public Sector Undertakings(DPSU) are:

  1. Munitions India Ltd
  2. Armoured Vehicles Nigam Ltd
  3. Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Ltd
  4. Troop Comforts Ltd
  5. Yantra India Ltd
  6. India Optel Ltd
  7. Gliders India Ltd.

 Gold Exchange set up to trade in Electronic Gold Reciepts(EGR)

  • Securitries and Exchange Board of India(SEBI) has approved the new framework for gold exchange and vault managers regulation which was proposed in the union budget .
  • Existing stock exchanges will be allowed to trade electronic gold reciepts, The denomination for trading the EGR and conversion of EGR into gold will be decided by the approval of SEBI.
  • The vault managers authorized by SEBI will be responsible for the storage and safety of gold deposits and creation of EGR, and he is also resposible to withdraw the gold grievance redressal and periodic reconciliation of physical gold on records of depository.
  • The accredited Vault manager should have a net worth of Rs 50 Crore.
  • The EGR holders can withdraw the gold from the vaults after surrendering the EGR.

Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) released report on renewable energy installations

  • The report mentioned a lag in the rate of renewable energy installations from the 2022 target.
  • Only 7GW of green energy installation has been added to the capacity, where the target set for the 2022 is 450GW.
  • The analysis said the coal stocks saw a new record high of 1320 lakh tonnes by the end of 2021-22, which exceeded from the monthly average of past five years.
  • India has currently managed to install only 43.94GW of power from solar energy capacity, where the targets for 2023 is aimed at 100GW.

Centre plans to roll out ‘Aapada Mitra project’

  • The Central government has planned to rollout the ‘Aapada Mitra project’ in 350 districts by imparting training to volunteers as first responders on any disaster.

Objectives of ‘Aapada Mitra project’:

  1. Development and Standardization of training modules at National Level.
  2. Development of Information Knowledge Management System at National level linked to States/Uts.
  3. Training institutions to be empanelled by respective States/UTs at the State/UT level.
  4. To train 6000 community volunteers in life saving skills of disaster response (flood relief and rescue), coordination, assistance, and provide personal protective equipment and emergency responder kits.
  5. To create a Community Emergency Stockpile/Reserve at the district/block level containing essential light search and rescue equipment, medical first aid kits, etc.
  6. To disseminate training and education tools developed under the project to more number of flood prone districts in subsequent phases of the scheme.

 

GI for Judima and Sojat mehandi

  • Home made rice wine Judima from Assam was awarded Geographical Indication GI tag,
  • Sojat Mehandi, a henna from Rajasthan also was awarded the GI tag.

About Judima: Judima is a local fermented drink made with rice, brewed by the Dimasa community in Assam. It derives its name from the words Ju which means wine and Dima means ‘belonging to the Dimasa’. It is the first traditional brew in all of the northeast to bag GI tag.

About Sojat mehandi: Sojat Mehendi, originating from Mehendi leaves grown in Sojat, is naturally cultivated using rainwater. Sojat tehsil of the Pali district in Rajasthan has a suitable geological structure, topography and drainage system, climate and soil for naturally cultivating the mehndi leave crop.
