Government to Set up NIA Offices

  • On 27 October 2022, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that National Investigation Agency (NIA) will set up its branches in all the State’s by 2024 addressing the two-day Chintan Shivir at Surajkund, Haryana.
  • The Chintan shivir which has been organized by the Union Home Ministry is being attended by Chief Ministers of the States, Home Ministers of States and Lieutenant Governors and Administrators of Union Territories.
  • NIA was set up by the Government of India in 2009 after Mumbai terrorist attack in 2008. It is the premier counter - terrorist agency in India.

Mobile App to Prevent Cyber Crimes Against Children

  • Kerala Chief Minister Shri Pinarayi Vijayan launched the ‘Kunjapp’, a mobile application to prevent cyber-crimes against children in Kerala.
  • Shri Vijayan also inaugurated the training for the newly appointed Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) members at Kovalam.
  • The CWC and JJB members must ensure the safety and security of the children.
  • Child exploitation can be reported through the application.
  • The CWC and the JJB members should ensure that the society follows the laws in connection with the children and make sure that those children who violate the law are transformed into model citizens.

World Hindi Conference

  • The 12th edition of World Hindi Conference will be held in Nadi, Fiji from 15 February to 17 February 2023.
  • The event is being organised by the External Affairs Ministry, Government of India and the Government of Fiji. The event will be used to promote Hindi as a global language.
  • It is for the first time that Fiji will be hosting the conference. English, Fijian and Fijian Hindi are the three official languages of Fiji.

BSE Gets SEBI Nod for Social Stock Exchange

  • Stock exchange BSE has got an in-principle nod from the capital market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for the Social Stock Exchange (SSE) as a separate segment.
  • The SEBI had specified minimum requirements to be met by a non-profit organization (NPO) for registration with SSE, disclosure requirements for NPOs raising funds through the issuance of zero-coupon zero principal instruments and put in place annual disclosure requirements that need to be made by NPOs on such exchanges.
  • The listed NPO will have to submit a statement of the utilization of funds to SSE as mandated under SEBI’s rules within 45 days from the end of the quarter.
  • About the minimum requirements to be met by an NPO, SEBI informed that NPO needs to be registered as a charitable trust and should be registered for at least 3 years.
  • It must have spent at least ₹50 lakh annually in the past financial year and should have received funding of at least ₹10 lakh in the past financial year.

  • BCCI announces the implementation of a pay equity policy for contracted Indian women cricketers.
  • The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be the same.
  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India has taken a historic decision on 27 October 2022 to promote gender equality in the nation's game.
  • BCCI Honorary Secretary Jay Shah has implemented "pay equity policy" for contracted Indian women cricketers.

Busiest Airport in the World

  • The Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi has emerged as the world's 10th busiest airport in October 2022, improving its ranking compared to the pre-pandemic period.
  • Aaviation analytics firm Official Airline Guide (OAG) in its report announced that Delhi airport has improved its position from 14th place in October 2019.
  • The rankings by OAG are based on scheduled airline capacity in the current month and compared to the equivalent month in 2019, pre-pandemic.
  • Atlanta International Airport, United States of America secured the top position in the list. It was followed by Dubai International Airport, United Arab Emirates.

National Intellectual Property Award for 2021 and 2022

  • The Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M) received the national prize for intellectual property for 2021 and 2022.

  • The evaluation criteria for patents were applications, grants and commercialization.

  • Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal presented the prize.

  • This award has inspired IIT Madras to create and protect additional intellectual property with societal impact.

  • The yearly award recognizes people who have succeeded in intellectual property ideas and commercialization that support the development of the nation’s IP ecosystem and foster innovation, including individuals, institutions, organizations and corporations.

The Book ‘From Dependence to Self­Reliance’

  • Bimal Jalan, an economist wrote the book ‘From Dependence to Self­Reliance: Mapping India’s Rise as a Global Superpower,’ which takes stock of India’s growth trajectory and benefits from Bimal Jalan’s deep insights.
  • The text is written clearly for the general reader.
  • Bimal Jalan divides his work into three sections includes four chapters on economics and three each on governance and politics.
  • Bimal Jalan’s principal goal is to promote India’s national interests, regardless of any political platform proclaimed during elections.

 

APPOINTMENTS & RESIGNATIONS

Chairperson of UN’s Air Transport Committee

  • India’s representative to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Shefali Juneja has been elected as the chairperson of the United Nations’ specialized aviation agency’s Air Transport Committee (ATC).
  • Juneja, a 1992 batch officer of the Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax cadre), served as a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) before joining the ICAO.
  • She is the first woman to represent India in the ICAO.
  • ATC is a standing committee of the ICAO created by the Chicago Convention in 1944.

World Day for Audiovisual Heritage

  • World day for Audiovisual Heritage is observed every year on 27 October.

  • UNESCO aims to promote digital platforms so that our Culture and Heritage will be transferred to the next younger generation quickly to their place so that they will be aware of the rich heritage and culture of all countries worldwide.

  • The theme for the year 2022 is ‘Enlisting documentary heritage to promote inclusive, just, and peaceful societies.’

 

OBITUTARY

Bengali Film Director Pinaki Chaudhuri

  • National award recipient director of Bengali films, Pinaki Chaudhuri has passed away in Kolkata, West Bengal. He was at the age of 82.
  • Pinaki Chaudhuri was an Indian academic and film director.
  • He had varied interests in arts and music and made his raid into the world of films in 1983 when he directed ‘Chena Achena’ (Known and Unknown).
  • He was the Chairman of the Jury Board for the selection of Indian films for the National Awards
  • He was awarded 2 National Awards for the Best Feature Film in Bengali, the first one in 1996 for Shanghaath’ (Conflict) and again in 2007 for Ballygunge Court.

Veteran Assamese Actor Nipon Goswami

  • Veteran Assamese actor Nipon Goswami passed away in Guwahati.

  • Nipon Goswami is one of the most prominent actors in the state and has numerous contributions to the Assamese film and TV industry.

  • Goswami has acted in 50 Assamese films including Mukuta, Sandhya Raag, etc.
