Karatpur Sahib Gurudwar corridor is set to open today

  • Union Home Minister announced that the Karatpur Sahib Gurudwar corridor will be opened from today.
  • It is a visa free border crossing and corridor, It links Gurudwar Darbar Sahib lying in Karatpur, Pakistan, with Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur, Punjab.
  • The corridor is set to open for the “Prakash Purb” birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.
  • The corridor is 4.7 km long from the India-Pakistan border.
  • This Karatpur corridor was first proposed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Nawaz Sherif in 1999.

 

First “Audit Diwas” celebrated

  • First ever Audit Diwas was celebrated, it is being celebrated to mark the origin of the Comptroller and Auditor General institution.
  • Prime Minister addressed the people during the first ‘Audit Diwas’, he also inaugurated the statue of Sardhar Vallabhai Patel.
  • Prime Minister asked his officers to give all the documents and data mentioned by the CAG.
  • Additional fact :
    • The comptroller and Auditor General of India is established under Article 148 of Indian constitution.
    • It’s role is to audit all receipts and expenditures of both Central and State governments
    • Girish Chandra Murumu is the current comptroller and Auditor General of India.

 

Indian Navy to Commission Project 15B

  • Indian Navy is set for Commission Project 15B radar guided missile destroyers Visakhapatnam  class by November 21.
  • It is also set to Commission fourth scorpene class submarine Vela.
  • It has also budgeted for indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vishal, which is to be built in Cochin shipyard under its Maritime Capability Perspective Plan (MCPP).
  • Additional fact :
    • Visakhapatnam class – 15B is developed by Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL), Mumbai.
    • The P-15B is armed with a 127 mm gun.
    • It is equipped with revised bridge layout to reduce Radar Cross Section (RCS).

 

17th Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to be constructed in Jammu & Kashmir

  • Largest Institute of Fashion Technology is set to be constructed in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir.
  • Central Minister for Textiles and Railways Darshana Vikram Jardosh announced the construction of the campus with a cost of Rs.287 crore to be built in 16.6 acres of land.
  • The campus will be constructed with Design Resource Centre (DRC) aimed to excel in handloom sector.
  • The students from Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir will have 35% reservation in the campus.

The Central Bank invalidates 100 redundant circulars

  • By the Recommendations of Regulations Review Authority, the Reserve Bank of India has withdrawn more than 100 unnecessary circulars.
  • Certain norms related to Foreign Portfolio Investors, RTGS, Anti Money laundering/combating of financing of Terrorism that were redundant was declared void by the RBI.
  • Additional fact :
    • The Regulation Review Authority was tasked to review regulatory instructions, remove redundant circulars, reduce compliance and banker, obviate paper based submission of reports.

 

IOB’s Gross Non-performing Asset shows at Rs.17,023 crore.

  • Indian Overseas Bank reported its gross NPA for a period upto March 2021 stood at Rs.16,323 crore.
  • But RBI assessed the total gross NPA of IOB to be Rs.17,023 crore.
  • This resulted in a divergence of gross NPA of Rs.700 crore.
  • The net NPA stood at Rs.4,578 crore, whereas RBI assessed it to be Rs.5,278 crore.
  • The net profit for IOB stands at Rs.646 crore.

 

Dip in Diesel demand

  • Diesel demand saw a fall by one fifth form the first 15 days in the month of November 2021.
  • Consumption of gasoline declined to 2.43 million tonnes, which is about 15.3%, previous year it stood on 19.4%.
