Six New Parliamentary Committees For 2024-25: Lok Sabha Speaker Constitutes

The Lok Sabha speaker on August 17, named the constituents of the six new Parliamentary Committees including the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) which examines government expenditure. Ganesh Singh, BJP MP from Satna, Madhya Pradesh has been appointed as the chairperson of the Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes.

Urban Unemployment Rate Declines to 6.6% in Q1 FY25

India’s urban unemployment rate slightly decreased to 6.6% in Q1 FY25 from 6.7% in Q4 FY24, as per the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO). This decline was primarily due to a drop in the male unemployment rate. However, the female unemployment rate rose to 9%, marking a four-quarter high.

The Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government is set to officially launch the ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana’ today on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. This initiative aims to provide ₹1500 every month to more than one crore women across the state.
