NATIONAL NEWS

National Cyber Forensic Laboratory

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated National Cyber Forensic Laboratory (NCFL) on Hyderabad.

  • It is located at the Central Forensic Science Laboratory campus.

  • At present, there are seven CFSL in the country which have dedicated facilities for electronic forensics, including computer and cyber forensics.
  • The lab has been constructed under the Cyber and Information Security Division MHA.
  • It is constructed at an estimated cost of about Rs. 35.51 crore.
  • It will speed up the process for disposal of cybercrime cases in the country.

Gatishakti Sanchar Portal

  • Minister of Communications, Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw launched Gatishakti Sanchar Portal in New Delhi.

  • This portal will facilitate smooth deployment of digital communications infrastructure across the country.
  • The portal will act as an enabler to the objective of Ease of doing business for telecommunications infrastructure works.
  • The portal has been developed by MP State Electronics Development Corporation.
  • It will enable applicants from various Telecom Service Providers (TSP) to apply at a common single portal.

Girl Empowerment Mission

  • National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has initiated the Girl Empowerment Mission for uplifting the lives of underprivileged girls living in different regions of the country.

  • NTPC is organizing a four-week-long Girl Empowerment Mission to provide every girl child essential education, health and self-defence awareness under the Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

  • It will also enhance the life skills of the students.
  • Under the programme various activities like dance, music and theatre will also be organized which will be helpful for the overall development of the students.

Sky Bridge 721

  • The world's longest suspension footbridge named Sky Bridge 721 was opened to the public in Czech Republic's Dolni Morava.

  • The 721-meter-long bridge has been named Sky Bridge 721. The Bridge hangs 95 meters above the ground.

  • Sky Bridge 721 was constructed in two years.
  • It was constructed at an estimated cost of 200 million crowns (USD 8.4 million).
  • The bridge was suspended by six main supporting ropes and 60 wind ropes.
  • It surpasses Portugal’s 516-meter Arouca Bridge.

PM Narendra Modi to Visit Lumbini

  • On the occasion of Buddha Purnima, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Lumbini in Nepal from the newly inaugurated Kushinagar International Airport.
  • Shri Modi is scheduled to reach the Kushinagar Airport from where he will fly to Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautama Buddha.
  • Kushinagar is the place where Gautama Buddha attained Mahaparinirvana.
  • Buddha Purnima is being celebrated om 16 May. It not only marks the day when Gautam Buddha was born but also the day when he attained Nirvana under the Mahabodhi tree at Bodh Gaya.
  • This day is commemorated by Buddhists and Hindus all over the world and is a major festival in countries like India, Nepal, Bhutan, Burma, Thailand, Tibet, China, Korea, Laos, Vietnam, and Mongolia, Cambodia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka.

Italian Cup 2022

  • Inter Milan defeated Juventus in the Italian Cup final which was held at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Italy.

  • The score was 4-2.

  • Ivan Perisic scored two goals at extra time to power Inter Milan.

ISSF Junior World Cup

  • Indian pistol pairs Esha Singh and Saurabh Chaudhary won the mixed team pistol gold at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany.

  • Ramita and Paarth Makhija also won silver in the category of 10m air rifle mixed team competition.

  • Esha and Saurabh came through after topping a 38-field qualification round of 60 shots with scores of 578 and 575 respectively.

SEA Games

  • The 34th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) will be held in Malaysia in 2027, and its 35th edition will be hosted by Singapore in 2029.

  • It was announced by the Olympic Council of Malaysia and the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) and Sport Singapore (SportSG).

  • The 2023 SEA Games are scheduled to be held in Cambodia.

Thomas Cup

  • India defeated Indonesia to lift Thomas Cup which was conducted in Bangkok.

  • Indian Men's Badminton team won the Thomas Cup for the first time ever.

  • India defeated Indonesia with score 3-0 in the finals.
  • Sports Minister announces cash award of Rs 1 crore.

New Director (Technical) Of CCL

  • Ram Baboo Prasad has appointed as new Director (technical) of Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL), a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Coal.

  • He succeeded Bhola Singh who joined the Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL) as chairman and managing director (CMD) on January 1, 2022.

  • Prior to this he was serving as General Manager in Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL).
  • Prasad is an Engineering Graduate in Mining Engineering from the IIT (ISM), Dhanbad.

World Migratory Bird Day

  • World Migratory Bird Day is observed every year on 14 May.

  • World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) is a global campaign that emphasizes the importance of migratory bird conservation and habitat preservation.

  • The theme for the year 2022 is “Impact of Light Pollution on Migratory Birds”.
  • The day raises awareness about the problems that migratory birds face, their ecological value and the need for worldwide collaboration to protect them.

International Day of Families

  • International Day of Families is observed every year on 15 May.
  • The theme for the year 2022 is ‘Families and Urbanization’.
  • The day is celebrated to raise awareness about the necessity of family-friendly urban policy.
  • The International Day of Families not only promotes the value of a healthy and well-balanced family, but also increases understanding of the economic, demographic, and social dynamics that influence families.

 

OBITUTARY

President of UAE HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed

  • The United Arab Emirates ruler, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has died at the age of 73.
  • He is the president of the United Arab Emirates, the Emir of Abu Dhabi and the supreme commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces since 2004.
  • He has also served as the chairman of the Supreme Petroleum Council in 1980.
  • He was born on 07 September 1948.
