Andhra Pradesh Tops the List in Attracting Industrial Investment

  • According to a report by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Andhra Pradesh has emerged on the top among all other states in attracting industrial investments in the first seven months of 2022.
  • Andhra Pradesh attracted an investment of Rs 21,914 crore out of the Rs 1,38,700 crore gross investments across India.
  • Andhra Pradesh and Odisha combined have bagged 45% of the total investment.
  • Overall, India got industrial investment worth Rs 1,71,285 crore by the end of July 2022.

Several Initiatives to International Year of Millets 2023

  • Agriculture Ministry has launched several initiatives as run-up to the International Year of Millets 2023 to create awareness about the ancient and forgotten golden grains.
  • A contest for designing a comic story, with the theme ‘India's Wealth, Millets for Health’ has been launched on 05 September.
  • It is intended to showcase the health benefits of millets to raise awareness among the masses. The contest will close on 05 November 2022.
  • To create domestic and global demand and to provide nutritional food to the people, Government of India spearheaded the United Nations General Assembly, UNGA resolution for declaring 2023 as International Year of Millets.
  • The proposal of India was supported by 72 countries and UNGA declared 2023 as International Year of Millets in March 2021.

Karnataka Government Partners with Dell

  • CySecK, Karnataka government’s centre of excellence (CoE) for cybersecurity and the nodal agency for promoting cyber-safe environment for industry collaboration, has partnered with Dell Technologies India to strengthen cyber-security in Karnataka.
  • This partnership is driven towards building a safe and secure digital environment for students, startups, government and other stakeholders in the state.
  • Dell Technologies through its “Tech for Social Good" initiative will roll out interactive courses on cyber hygiene best practices for school students which will also be made available in Kannada.
  • These programs will also be curated for small and medium scale enterprises as well as for government functionaries.

 

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

India to Invite Bangladesh as Guest Country

  • India will invite Bangladesh as a Guest Country to take part in the G 20 meeting during its Presidency.
  • India will assume the Presidency of G-20 for one year from December 2022 to November 2023.
  • As part of the G 20 tradition of inviting some Guest Countries and International Organisations (IO) to its meetings and summit, India has decided to invite Egypt, Mauritius, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain and UAE as Guest Countries apart from Bangladesh.
  • During India’s Presidency, the Troika would consist of India, Indonesia and Brazil. This would be the first time when the Troika would consist of three developing countries and emerging economies.
  • The G20 or Group of Twenty, is an intergovernmental forum of the world’s major developed and developing economies.
  • It comprises 19 countries including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, UK, USA and the European Union (EU).

NAVAL Exercise ‘Kakadu’

  • INS Satpura and P8I Maritime Patrol Aircraft will arrive in Darwin in Australia to Participate in Multinational Naval Exercise.
  • The exercise Kakadu is being hosted by the Royal Australian Navy.
  • The two-week-long Exercise, both in harbour and sea involves ships and maritime aircraft from 14 Navies.
  • During the harbour phase of the exercise, the ship’s crew will engage in operational planning interactions and sports activities with participating Navies.

Exercise JIMEX 2022

  • The sixth edition of Japan-India Maritime Exercise 2022 (JIMEX 22) hosted by the Indian Navy, began in the Bay of Bengal.
  • The Indian Navy is being represented by three indigenously designed and built warships- Sahyadri, a multi-purpose stealth frigate and Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvettes Kadmatt and Kavaratti.
  • JIMEX 22 involves two phases - exercises at sea and a harbour phase at Visakhapatnam.
  • Japan Maritime Self Defence Force ships Izumo, a Helicopter Carrier and Takanami, a Guided Missile Destroyer were represented the Japanese Navy.
  • This edition marks the 10th anniversary of JIMEX, which began in Japan in 2012. It also coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Japan.

  • Customers looking to purchase a house can avail end-to-end home buying assistance.
  • It is a first-of-its-kind unified platform that will handle all consumer inquires around residential real estate.

US Open 2022

  • In the men’s division, Spanish player C. Alcaraz Garcia has won his maiden Grand Slam title after defeating C. Ruud, who is only 19 years old and is the youngest player to become world Number one.
  • The tournament took place at New York’s Arthur Ashe Stadium.
  • In the women’s division, Poland tennis player I. Witek beat O. Jabeur to win the 2022 US Open women’s singles.

 

APPOINTMENTS & RESIGNATIONS

Attorney General of India

  • Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi is set to be appointed the fourteenth Attorney General for India for a second time from 01 October 2022.
  • Rohatgi was Attorney General for the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government between 2014 and 2017.
  • Rohatgi completed law at Government Law College in Mumbai and started practicing law straight after college.
  • The Attorney General of India acts as the chief legal advisor of the Indian Government.
  • The tenure of the incumbent Attorney General K.K. Venugopal is coming to a close on 30 September 2022.

Indian Ambassador to Eritrea

  • Senior diplomat Prakash Chand has been appointed the next ambassador of India to the State of Eritrea.
  • Previously, Chand was the Consul General of India in Bali since 2019.
  • He has worked as Director (Consular) in the Consular, Passport and Visa Division in the MEA.
  • Chand has also served as First Secretary (Consular) in Philippines from 2010 to 2014.

 

OBITUTARY

Iconic French Filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard

  • Iconic French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard passed away in Switzerland. He was at the age of 91.
  • Jean defied convention over a long career that began in the 1950s as a film critic. He rewrote rules for camera, sound and narrative
  • He revolutionised popular cinema in 1960 with his debut feature Breathless and stood for years as one of the world's most vital and provocative directors.
  • In December 2007, he was honoured by the European Film Academy with a lifetime achievement award.
  • In 2010, Jean released Film Socialisme, a film in three chapters first shown at the Cannes Film Festival.
