Japan Reveals World’s Inaugural 6G Device

A Japanese consortium unveiled the world’s first high-speed 6G prototype device.

The prototype device can transmit data at a remarkable speed of 100 gigabits per second (Gbps), covering a distance of more than 300 feet.

This represents a significant advancement over current 5G technology, boasting a 20x improvement.

The prototype device was a result of collaboration among Japan’s leading telecom companies, including DOCOMO, NTT Corporation, NEC Corporation, and Fujitsu.

The successful test results were announced on April 11th, showcasing the device's capability to achieve speeds of 100 Gbps indoors using the 100 gigahertz (GHz) band and outdoors using the 300 GHz band.

Tests were conducted over a distance of 328 feet (100 metres).

6G utilizes even higher frequency bands than 5G, making it challenging for devices to receive necessary frequencies for faster downloads.

Factors like distance and environmental conditions (e.g., walls, rain) can significantly disrupt 6G signals, even during tests conducted over 328 feet (100 meters).

With its increased speed, 6G could enable advancements such as real-time holographic communication and immersive virtual and mixed-reality experiences.
