Ayurveda Day 2022 Programme

  • All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) has launched Ayurveda Day 2022 programme on 12 September 2022.

  • The six-week long programme will continue till 23 October 2022.

  • AIIA has been chosen as the nodal agency for driving the Ministry of Ayush’s mandate for Ayurveda Day for the year 2022.

  • The theme for the celebration is ‘Har Din Har Ghar Ayurveda’.
  • It is celebrated to create awareness of ‘Ayurveda for Holistic Health’ in every household and make true the vision of From Healthy India to a Healthy World.

Exercise ‘Ganga Strike’

  • Indian Army’s Kharga Corps and the Indian Air Force have conducted a joint exercise ‘Gagan Strike’ in Punjab.

  • It showcased the precision firepower of the attack helicopters in coordination with ground forces mechanised columns.

  • The exercise comprised the deployment of attack helicopters as the aerial arm in support of ground forces carrying out drills, practising annihilation of enemy defences and deep penetration.

100-Day Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme

  • Rajasthan chief minister Shri Ashok Gehlot launched the ‘Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Scheme’ at the Ambedkar Bhawan, Jaipur, Rajasthan.

  • It is to provide 100 days of employment to needy families in urban areas on the lines of the rural employment guarantee scheme Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

  • The Government of Rajasthan has allocated Rs 800 crore for the scheme.
  • The scheme would cover works like environment protection, water and heritage conservation, garden maintenance, removing encroachments, illegal sign boards, hoardings, banners, Sanitation, cleanliness, etc.
  • People from the age group of 18 to 60 are eligible for the scheme.

 

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

Hughes Announces Broadband Internet Service

  • Hughes Communications India, a joint venture entity of US-based Hughes Network Systems and Indian telecom operator Bharti Airtel, announced the launch of its first high throughput satellite (HTS) broadband internet service in India.

  • The service will offer satellite internet to remote locations across India and will use the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)’s Geosynchronous Satellite (GSAT)-11 and GSAT-29 satellites to offer the service.

  • The service was expected to offer bandwidth of between 2-10Mbps.

  • HTS refers to satellite connectivity that offers a higher bandwidth — which in turn increases the amount of data that could be transferred between a satellite and a ground station.

  • HDFC Life has launched a term insurance plan Click2Protect Super, which enables customisation as per protection needs and you only pay for the benefits/plan options that you have chosen.

  • Click2Protect Super is a non-linked, non-participating, individual, pure risk premium/ savings life insurance plan.

  • The plan provides comprehensive ­financial protection for the family.
  • One can choose a cover as per requirement from among three plan options – Life, Life Plus and Life Goal.

SBI and WAARE

  • WAAREE, India’s largest Solar Panel manufacturer has an Agreement with the State Bank of India (SBI) for Solar Projects.

  • It allows WAAREE to receive unsecured financing for solar projects through Surya Shakti Solar Finance Scheme and provide working capital for Channel Partners under EDFS (Electronic dealer finance scheme).

  • Through the scheme, WAAREE plans to leverage a credit line of more than USD 500 million and offer loan borrowers a digital platform for a simple application process.

  • It offers 5 different investment strategies and 11 funds along with a return of mortality charges at maturity.

Asia Cup 2022

  • Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by 23 runs to lift their 6th Asia Cup title at the Dubai International Stadium last night.

  • Pakistan were all out on 147 runs in 20 overs with Mohammad Rizwan top-scored with 55 runs.

  • For Sri Lanka, Pramod Madushan scalped four wickets while Wanindu Hasaranga took three and Chamika Karunaratne bagged two wickets.

  • Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been adjudged the Player of the Series.
  • Bhanuka Rajapaksa has been named the Player of the Match for his batting performance in the final.

CEO of American Express India

  • American Express Banking Corp appointed Sanjay Khanna as the chief executive officer and country manager for India.

  • Khanna heads the country executive team and is responsible for driving growth across the organization’s consumer and commercial businesses.

  • In his new role, he will also spearhead several strategic and business development initiatives for the company.

  • American Express is an American multinational corporation specializing in payment card services.

Prime Minister of Burundi

  • Burundi’s President Mr Evariste Ndayishimiye has appointed Mr Gervais Ndirakobuca as the Prime Minister of Burundi.
  • He succeeds Alain-Guillaume Bunyoni.
  • The 113 members of Parliament (MPs) approved the proposal.
  • He is a Burundian former rebel commander and police commissioner.
  • He served as the Minister of Interior, Public Security, and Community Development.

Chairman and Managing Director of BEL

  • Dinesh Kumar Batra, Director (Finance) and CFO has taken additional charge as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).

  • He is a member of the Board of BEL subsidiaries, BEL-Thales Systems Limited (BTSL) and BEL Optronic Devices Limited (BELOP).

  • He also played a pivotal role in obtaining necessary approvals for BEL’s highest-ever payout of 450% Dividend.

 

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

Single-Piece 3D Printed Rocket Engines

  • Indian space-tech startup AgniKul Cosmos Private Limited has secured a patent from the Central government for the design and manufacturing of single-piece rocket engines using 3D printing technology.
  • Agnilet, one such single-piece engine is the world’s first single-piece 3D printed rocket engine fully designed and manufactured in India. It was successfully test-fired in early 2021.
  • Since 2019, Agnikul has raised a total funding of Rs 105 crore ($15 million) from Mayfield India, pi Ventures, Speciale Invest and a host of others including prominent angels such as Anand Mahindra and Naval Ravikant.
