BIS Signs MoU with TIC Council

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India signed an MoU with Testing, Inspection, Certification Council, India.
-
The two organizations will collaborate to promote and harmonise the implementation of standards and quality, safety and sustainability practices in laboratories.
-
The organizations resolved to further work to improve the responsiveness for laboratories and exchange and disseminate the global best practices in the field of laboratories.
-
A seminar on “Emerging Global Trends in Laboratories for AatmaNirbhar Bharat” is being jointly organized by the two organizations on 03 November 2022 in New Delhi.
- TIC Council (Testing, Inspection, Certification Council) is a global trade association representing the independent third-party testing, inspection and certification industry (TIC).
Cheetah Task Force

The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has constituted a 9-member task force on 07 October 2022.

It is to monitor cheetah introduction in Kuno Natioanl Park, Madhya Pradesh.
-
It will be headed by Alok Kumar, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) & Chief Wildlife Warden, Madhya Pradesh.
- the task force has been constituted for a period of 2 years and will “review, progress and monitor the health status of Cheetah.
- The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) would facilitate the working of the Cheetah Task Force and render all necessary help.
INTERNATIONAL NEWS
US and South Korea Begins Joint Maritime Exercises

The South Korea and the United States began joint maritime exercises with a US aircraft carrier.

The maritime drills will take place in waters off South Korea's east coast on 07 and 08 October 2022.
-
Both the countries will continue to strengthen their operational capabilities and readiness to respond to any provocations by North Korea through joint drills.

RBI Launches DAKSH

The Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das launched a new ‘SupTech’ initiative DAKSH.
-
DAKSH is the bank’s Advanced Supervisory Monitoring System, which is expected to make the supervisory processes more robust.
-
It will monitor compliance requirements in a more focused manner with the objective of further improving the compliance culture in Supervised entities like Banks and NBFCs.
- The Reserve Bank of India performs this function under the guidance of the Board for Financial Supervision (BFS).
ICICI Bank Launches ‘Smart Wire’

ICICI Bank announced the launch of an online solution to help its customers carry out SWIFT based inward remittances in a faster and hassle-free manner named- ‘Smart Wire’.

The facility allows both NRIs and resident customers to undertake inward remittance transactions in an online and paperless way.
-
ICICI Bank is the first bank in the country to introduce this faster online solution to receive inward wire remittances.

World Bank Cuts India's GDP Growth Forecast

The World Bank cut its 2022-23 (FY23) real gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecast for India to 6.5%, from an earlier estimate of 7.5%.
-
This is the third time the World Bank has revised its GDP growth forecast for India in FY23.
- In June, it had slashed its FY23 GDP growth forecast for India to 7.5%. Earlier in April, it had trimmed the forecast from 8.7% to 8%.
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has recently cut the economic growth projection for the current fiscal to 7% from 7.2%.

Bhupesh Baghel Inaugurates ‘Chhattisgarhriya Olympic Games’
- Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated the grand multi-sport event ‘Chhattisgarhiya Olympic Games’.
- It aims to promote traditional games of Chhattisgarh, at Balbir Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium here.
- The Chhattisgarhiya Olympics games have been started to bring back the era of traditional games and create an environment to make these games flourish.
- Besides, it also aims to make the younger generation aware of our culture and tradition.
- The event will be organized from October 2022 to January 2023.
FIH Goalkeepers of the Year Awards

India’s PR Sreejesh and Savita Punia have been voted FIH Men’s and Women’s Goalkeeper of the year 2021-2022.

The award was given by the International Hockey Federation (FIH).
-
Savita has become only the 3rd athlete to win this award for consecutive 2 years since the inception of the award in 2014.
- While Sreejesh has become the 2nd player to win the award 2 consecutive times.
First Athelete to Win Gold in Yogasana
- At the 36th National Games, Pooja Patel of Gujarat has become the first athlete to win gold in Yogasana.
- Yogasana is one of the five sports to be played at the National Games this year for the first time.
- This Indian indigenous sport made its debut at the Khelo India University Games earlier this year.

Nobel Peace Prize 2022

The Norwegian Nobel Committee bestowed the Nobel Peace Prize on one individual and two organisations in 2022.

Ales Bialiatski- a Belarusian human rights activist, a Russian human rights organization -Memorial and Center for Civil Liberties, a Ukrainian human rights organisation, have been announced to be recipients of 2022 Nobel Peace Prize.

They have made an excellent effort to document war crimes, human rights violations and power abuse.
- They highlight the importance of civil society to peace and democracy.
- Ales Bialiatski was one of the pioneers of the mid-1980s democratic movement in Belarus.
- The Center for Civil Liberties was established in Kyiv in the year 2007 with the goal of promoting human rights and democracy in Ukraine.

MD and CEO of Yes Bank

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the appointment of Prashant Kumar as MD and CEO of Yes Bank for three years with effect from 06 October 2022.

Prior to joining Yes Bank, Kumar was Deputy Managing Director & CFO of India's largest bank SBI, where he served in various capacities.

Yes bank is an Indian Bank headquartered in Mumbai.

World Cotton Day

World Cotton Day is celebrated every year on 07 October.

At the initiative of the Cotton-4 Benin, Burkino Faso, Chad and Mali-the World Trade Organization made the launch of World Cotton Day 0n 07 October 2019.
- India is one of the largest cotton producers globally. It is a multipurpose plant chiefly used in the textile industry but also in the medical sector, edible oil industry, animal feeds and bookbinding, among others.
- 2022 marks the third-anniversary celebration of the international event.
- The theme for the year 2022 is ‘Weaving a better future for cotton’.
