Delhi Airport to Replace All Vehicles with EVs

  • Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) announced that Indira Gandhi International Airport has decided to introduce 62 electric vehicles (EVs) in the next four months for its operations.

  • These EVs will be introduced in a phased manner under Green Transportation Program.

  • It would help in reducing approximately 1,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually.
  • The Delhi airport will also install high voltage and fast-charging stations at strategic locations to meet the requirements of these vehicles and other airport stakeholders.
  • DIAL has partnered with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) to make necessary changes in the EVs to install airport-specific equipment.

Ex Khaan Quest 2022

  • 07 June 2022, President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh inaugurated ‘Khaan Quest-2022’.

  • The 14-day exercise is aimed at enhancing interoperability, building military to military relationships and developing peace support operations and military readiness among participating nations.
  • The military exercise will enhance the level of defence cooperation among participating countries.
  • A multinational peacekeeping exercise-Ex Khaan Quest 2022 was participated by military contingents from 16 countries including India commenced in Mongolia.
  • The Indian Army is represented by a contingent from the LADAKH SCOUTS.

Visitor’s Conference 2022

  • President Ram Nath Kovind hosted the Visitor’s Conference 2022 at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

  • During the event, President Kovind will present the Visitor’s Awards 2020 in the categories of Research and Technological Development.
  • The two-day Conference will witness presentations and deliberations on various topics.
  • The topics include international rankings of Higher Education Institutions, collaboration between Academia-Industry and policy-makers, education and research in emerging and disruptive technologies.

National Tribal Research Institute in New Delhi

  • On 07 June 2022, Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the National Tribal Research Institute in New Delhi.
  • The inaugural event will be part of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebration by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
  • NTRI will be a premier national level institute and become the centre of tribal concerns, issues and matters in academic, executive and legislative fields.
  • It wil monitor projects of Tribal Research Institutes, Centres of Excellence and set up norms for improvement in the quality of research and training.

DAC Clears Proposals of Military Equipment

  • On 06 June 2022, the defence ministry approved the procurement of military equipment and platforms worth Rs 76,390 crore from domestic industries.

  • The procurement proposals were approved by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
  • The DAC is the apex decision making body of the Ministry of Defence.
  • For the Indian Navy, the DAC accorded approval for the procurement of next generation corvettes (NGCs) at an estimated cost of around Rs 36,000 crore.

DBS Bank India Partners with Bajaj Finance

  • DBS Bank India has announced the launch of its first-ever credit card in India in partnership with Bajaj Finance Limited.
  • The Bajaj Finserv DBS Bank SuperCard is powered by Visa which eliminates the need to have multiple credit cards.
  • SuperCard, as a one-of-its-kind offering will provide customers with benefits and rewards across different product categories and exclusive benefits on the Bajaj Finserv’s range of products and services available across the country.
  • The SuperCard also allows customers to receive up to 5% cashback (up to ₹500 per transaction) on the down payment of durable consumer loans.

Youngest Kabaddi Entrant at KIYG 2021

  • At 13 years, Eitu Mandal from Jharkhand is the youngest kabaddi entrant in the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2021.
  • Mandal is playing in KIYG 2021 as a part of the Under-18 Youth team.
  • This is the fourth edition of the Khelo India Youth Games which is being organized in Panchkula, Haryana.
  • Jharkhand’s Eitu Mandal had entered the record books.20

UIC International Sustainable Railway Awards

  • Indian Railways have been awarded by the UIC International Sustainable Railway Awards (ISRA)

  • It was awarded in the category of “Best use of Zero-Carbon Technology” for feeding Solar Energy directly to 25 KV AC Traction System.

  • Indian Railways is observing World Environment Day on 5th June, 2022 in an appropriate and befitting manner keeping in line with the theme of this year’s World Environment Day.
  • For environment protection, Railways have been continuously taking major initiatives that have positive impact on the environment by way of reducing pollution/GHG emissions, promoting resources and energy efficiency and contributing to sustainability.

Golden Conch Award at MIFF 2022

  • The Dutch documentary film “Turn Your Body to the Sun” that tells the incredible story of a Soviet Prisoner of War, has won the Golden Conch award for the Best Documentary Film at MIFF 2022.
  • The top award of the Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Short Fiction and Animation Films was presented by the Governor of Maharashtra Shri Bhagat Singh Koshiyari at the ceremony held at the Nehru Centre, Mumbai.
  • The Award carries a Golden Conch, a Certificate and cash prize of Rs 1 million (Rs 10 lakhs).
  • In the Short Fiction category, Malayalam film ‘Saakshatkaaram’ shares the Silver Conch award with Gudmund Helsmsal’s ‘Brother Troll’ a film from Faroe Islands of Denmark.
  • ‘Prince in a Pastry Shop’ directed by Polish filmmaker Katarzyna Agopsowicz, won the Silver Conch for Best Animation Film in International Competition category.

Head of Punjab & Sind Bank

  • Shri Swarup Kumar Saha was appointed as the MD & CEO of Punjab & Sind Bank.

  • Prior to this, he was Executive Director of Punjab National Bank since March 10, 2021.
  • He succeeded S Krishnan.
  • Saha is a graduate in Science from University of Calcutta, Kolkata, started his career in Banking in Oriental Bank of Commerce in the year 1990 as Probationary Officer.
  • He is a Certified Associate member of Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB).

UN Russian Language Day

  • UN Russian Language Day is celebrated every year on 06 June.

  • It is to create awareness about the history, culture and development of the Russian language.

  • It also aims to celebrate cultural diversity and multilingualism.
