Green Energy Initiatives at India Energy Week

  • Key energy initiatives will be unveiled by PM Modi during India Energy Week which will be held in Bengaluru from 06 February to 08 February 2023.

  • He will dedicate the HAL helicopter factory at Tumakuru to the nation and also lay the foundation stone for various development initiatives.

  • China, America, Russia, Brazil and many other countries will participate in this important event.

  • This is the first time that India is hosting such an event with a record number of CEOs from top energy companies.

  • According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), India will account for 25 percent of global energy demand by 2040.

  • An important initiative to be launched during the India Energy Week will be to increase blending of ethanol in the fuel.

SARAS Aajeevika Mela 2023

  • Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the SARAS Aajeevika Mela 2023 at Jammu.

  • The 11-day fair is the first of its kind in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

  • This mega event will provide a platform to rural SHG women to sell and promote their self-made products and build marketing tie-ups with various sales platforms.

  • It is an initiative of the Deen Dayal Dayal Upadhyaya Yojana of the Union Ministry of Rural Development.

  • It aims to provide an opportunity to rural women self-help groups to showcase their skills, sell products and make direct contact with bulk buyers.

  • This fair serves as an integrated approach for women empowerment. This has been linked with the Atmanirbhar Bharat approach.

Real Time Pollution Factors Gathering Mechanism

  • Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal has inaugurated a ‘super site’ and a mobile van which will collect pollution data in real-time and tell its constituents.
  • Delhi would become the first city in the country to get a real-time source segmentation of air pollution.
  • It will identify factors that are responsible for the increase in air pollution in Delhi.
  • The project has been initiated by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, IIT Delhi and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI)
  • Based on the data, this super site will also assist in forecasting air pollution levels enabling the government to deploy its resources to combat pollution.

Football’s 2027 Asian Cup

  • The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) won the hosting of the 2027 Asian Nations Cup, for the first time in its history, since its inception in 1956.

  • This came during the work of the 33rd Congress of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in the Bahraini capital, Manama.

  • Saudi Arabia was the only bid presented at the Congress in Manama after India’s withdrawal in December 2022.

World’s Most Popular Leader

  • According to a survey by US-based consulting firm 'Morning Consult', Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been rated as the world's most popular leader with an approval rating of 78 per cent.

  • According to the rating, PM Modi's rating is ahead of other leaders including US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

  • The poll surveyed 22 global leaders for the ratings.

  • US based Morning Consult's "Global Leader Approval" survey is based on data collected from 26 January- 31 January 2023.

  • Surveys are weighted in each country by age, gender, region and in some countries by official government sources and education.

Grammy Award 2023

  • Indian music composer Ricky Kej has won his third Grammy Award at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards for his globally acclaimed album, Divine Tides with Rock-legend Stewart Copeland.

  • After winning his third Grammy, Ricky Kej has created history in India by becoming the only Indian to win 3 Grammy Awards.

  • The music album Divine Tides is a tribute to 'Vasudeva Kutumbakam - The World is one family'.

  • The album, which contains nine songs and eight music videos, was around the world from the exquisite beauty of the Indian Himalayas to the Icy forests of Spain.

 

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

NASA Partners with IBM

  • IBM has partnered with NASA to gain new findings on Earth’s climate through the power of AI technology. The two organizations will use AI tech developed by IBM.

  • IBM informed that the goal of the partnership is to provide an easier way for researchers to analyze and draw insights from these large data sets.

  • The company plans to apply its foundation AI models, which are trained on broad sets of data to speed up the analysis of this data.

  • By analyzing the satellite data, it is hoped this foundational model will identify changes in natural disasters, crop yields and wildlife habitats to help researchers analyze the Earth’s environmental systems.

World Cancer Day

  • World Cancer Day is observed every year on 04 February.

  • It is to create awareness about cancer as a public health issue and strengthen action towards improving quality care, screening, early detection and treatment.

  • The theme for the year 2023 is 'Close the Care Gap'.

  • This theme is about understanding the disparities in cancer care and taking action to make the progress needed to address them.

  • World Cancer Day originated in the year 2000 at the first World Summit against Cancer which was held in Paris (France).

 

OBITUTARY

Pakistan's Former President Pervez Musharraf

  • Pervez Musharraf, former President of Pakistan, passed away in Dubai. He was at the age of 79.

  • Musharraf was a four-star general who ruled Pakistan for nearly a decade after seizing power in a 1999 coup.

  • Musharraf rose to power following a military takeover of the government in 1999 and became the tenth President of Pakistan in June 2001.

  • He resigned in August 2008, facing possible impeachment.

Legendary Playback Singer Vani Jairam

  • Padma Bhushan awardee legendary playback singer Vani Jairam passed away.

  • Vani Jayaram has sung in more than a dozen languages including Tamil, Marathi, Telugu, Hindi and Bhojpuri.

  • She was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian award, ahead of Republic Day this year.

  • Jairam started her singing career in Bollywood and got her first break in the Hindi film Guddi (1971) directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

  • She won the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer thrice.
  • She also won state government awards from the states of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
